Il Volo – Personal Myths and The Magical Power of Silk

We all have our personal myths…. you know, something that we are quite attached to, an object, a memory, a feeling that, when we are at our lowest, we dig up and we bring back, in order to find comfort and consolation. We use these personal myths to recharge, to restore our hope and to find our way back to the joy of life.

An example of this personal myth for me is silk… anything silk… I guess, the root of this feeling is buried deep in my childhood, when I was half asleep on a sofa, my mother would sneak into the room, slowly like a floating fairy to check up on me, to see if I was well and calm. Her perfume would embrace my whole being and a piece of her silk robe would softly land on my face.

That very moment has been carved into my soul forever. Her care and her comforting presence would become my ultimate personal myth, my endless source of love and security. So, whenever I am down and sad, I visit that memory of scent and silk, a combination that always brings me back to life.

It is not surprising that I instantly fell in love with the pieces so masterfully crafted by a brand that caught my eye: IL VOLO. I could immediately feel that their beautiful lingerie reminded me of that memory I treasure, my personal fountain of energy and serenity.

Il Volo puts at the center of their creations the love of feminine charm and “the deep admiration for the feminine universe”. Their stunning pieces are exclusively made of the finest silk from France and Italy and they are adorned with delicate lace from the renowned French house, Solstiss.

Silk has been known since the beginning of times as a breathable fabric and a natural temperature regulator. It helps the body maintain a comfortable temperature by retaining heat in cold weather or controlling moisture on a hot day… or night.

The production of silk originates in China in the Neolithic (Yangshao culture, 4th millennium BC) and it remained confined to China until the Silk Road opened at some point during the latter half of the first millennium BC. Silk was considered a luxury item and it became very popular among Chinese high society. The popularity of this material was so big that laws were made to regulate and limit the use of silk to the members of the imperial family.

Nothing says love and romance better than the combination of silk, lace and perfume… Nothing makes a woman more empowered and more attractive than the confidence inspired by this trifecta of timeless feminine symbols.

Cruising Il Volo shop makes me think of Alice falling into the rabbit hole through the looking glass. An endless virtual space of carefully crafted treasures, in the most sensual and appealing colors, from robes and nightgowns to camisoles and kimonos. Each and every piece is perfectly accomplished, with bewildering attention to detail, like a perfectionist hand is always touching and refines the lines to suit and embellish the women’s body.

The materials and their diverse color pallet (especially in the kimono collection) are simply spectacular. They ignite the imagination and they transport you in the most sensual world, where the woman is always the Queen of Life.

Empowering women is an objective of this brand that we can all appreciate and cherish. This brave endeavor is to behold in the highest regard, especially in the current society. One could argue that women should not look for empowerment outside of them, in clothes, perfumes or other people. But I would say that women should take empowerment just like LOVE, from everywhere they can find it: from family, friends, pets or beautiful things they surround themselves with…

In this day and age, it is hard to find authentic sources of empowerment and love. And when we have successfully identified one…we should make it ours.
